The world is learning that no single nation can address the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR) alone. For the first time, Africa is set to host the 5th Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on AMR, with Nigeria selected as the host country. For a continent where AMR causes more mortality per capita than anywhere else in the world, this is more than a diplomatic milestone; it is a call to action. This perspective examines what the conference aims to achieve, why Africa's AMR challenge demands a distinctly African response, and the seven priority areas African governments, communities, and health systems must urgently address to turn this historic moment into lasting change.
