This study analyses how Lithuanians who have migrated to other countries are represented in their country of origin’s online media, through an examination of two major portals – 15 min and Delfi – from 2013 to 2022. Drawing on critical Whiteness studies and migration scholarship, it explores how Whiteness is constructed and negotiated as a symbolic position within East-West European mobility, focusing on media pieces featuring migrants’ voices. The analysis shows that negative tropes encountered abroad are often echoed in domestic media. While some are actively contested through the growing presence of migrant-authored perspectives, migrant narratives in the media continue to reproduce nested hierarchies within racialized global orders. The study contributes to scholarship on racialization, migration, and national identity by highlighting how peripheral Whiteness operates in representations of East-West migration from the perspective of a migrant-sending country, thereby extending research that has predominantly focused on host-country contexts and journalist-driven narratives.
