ABSTRACT The environment is rapidly changing, and so too are its effects on poverty. One of the most affected sectors is agriculture, where the majority of people in low‐income countries earn their livelihoods. Climate‐smart agriculture (CSA) has been widely promoted as a strategy for improving agricultural productivity, increasing yields and ultimately enhancing household welfare. However, its impact on multidimensional poverty remains unclear, as this area has received relatively little empirical attention. This article addresses this gap by examining the effect of CSA adoption on multidimensional poverty. Multidimensional poverty is measured using the Alkire–Foster methodology, and the analysis draws on nationally representative data from the integrated household survey (IHS). Using quasi‐experimental methods, specifically matching techniques, we find that the adoption of climate‐smart agricultural practices is associated with a reduction in multidimensional poverty.
