This article the role of applied ethnography in an interdisciplinary project by a group of architects, urban planners, historians, and anthropologists focused on water reuse for urban greening and agriculture. Drawing on fieldwork conducted with the Athar Lina Initiative, the article highlights the challenges of defining the "problem" and the potential for ethnographic research to contribute to institutional shifts by drawing on the methodology’s holistic nature. The article argues that applied ethnography can facilitate productive collaborations by examining the construction of the problem and fostering shifts in paradigms among collaborators. The research underscores the importance of understanding local social and cultural contexts in developing sustainable water reuse practices and demonstrates the potential for ethnographic research to contribute to tangible benefits for communities facing environmental and social challenges.
