Abstract

Venous thromboembolism (VTE), encompassing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients. This population faces a high VTE incidence, influenced by critical care specific risk factors like indwelling central venous catheters, continuous sedation, invasive mechanical ventilation, and vasoactive infusions. While optimal prophylactic strategies remain uncertain, this topic has garnered significant research interest. However, the quality of methodology for randomized controlled trials in this domain remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review to evaluate the sample size methodology and justification of these randomized controlled trials.
