In this article, I introduce the relationship between theologies and masculinities with a critical and constructive lens. Building on feminist and contextual theologies, I show how attention to masculinities and patriarchy ought to be the task of any theologian that seriously pursues justice and liberation. I first show how locating the theologian is important for all those engaging in God-talk, even male or masculine theologians. Then, I define masculinities in their plurality, recognising their moulding state and how they easily fall into hierarchies of gendered oppression. Finally, I explore how the relationship between theologies and masculinities has been restrictive thus far, offering new ways for both to be reimagined for the greater freedom of God-talk and humanity.
