Abstract

Trichophyton mentagrophytes internal transcribed spacer genotype VII (TMVII) infection is increasingly reported in parts of Europe. We present one of the first cases of TMVII reported in the UK, occurring in a 32-year-old man who has sex with men, which was successfully treated with itraconazole. As a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease now also reported in the UK, clinical vigilance is required, particularly in patients with higher-risk sexual behaviour, to allow prompt, directed treatment in order to prevent disease progression and transmission.
