Abstract Agonistic interactions among free-ranging lesser anteaters Tamandua tetradactyla (Linnaeus, 1758) are rarely documented. This note reports a detailed observation of an agonistic encounter between two adult individuals recorded on 6 January 2026 along an unpaved road in a peri-urban area of Conceição do Araguaia, Pará, Brazil. Continuous video footage documents sustained physical combat, including upright postures, frontal alignment, forelimb strikes, ground-based grappling, and repeated use of the prehensile tail to restrain the opponent. A single defecation event occurred during the interaction, and visible bleeding indicates physical injury. This record represents a rarely documented field observation of intraspecific agonistic interaction in the species.
