Psychological technologies, defined as instruments and programs based on scientific knowledge of psychology, are evaluated through a series of specific criteria extensively studied in contemporary literature. These criteria vary depending on whether they are exploration technologies (such as reliability and validity) or intervention technologies (such as efficacy and effectiveness). In this article, we argue that there is a common criterion for evaluating both classes of technologies: efficiency. This criterion of evaluation is more familiar concerning technologies designed to produce modifications in various dimensions of the psychological world. However, through both a conceptual analysis and an examination of its use in contemporary psychometric theory, we conclude that it is also a pertinent and relevant criterion for exploration technologies.
