SUMMARY We identified 10 Caulerpa species collected from Okinoerabujima Island, Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan, using the tuf A DNA barcode marker. Their tuf A sequences showed 99.9–100% identity with tuf A sequences available in GenBank. Among them, C . andamanensis and C . minuta , newly recorded species in Japan, were recognized by both morphological and molecular analyses. Caulerpa andamanensis is characterized by stolons and assimilator bases covered with short, acute processes and by minute spines produced at the branchlet tips, whereas C . minuta is characterized by simple, flattened, and roundish to oblong assimilators.
