Experiential learning outside the classroom should be encouraged for undergraduate students and promoted by Anthropology faculty. Reflecting on my own experiences with professor mentorship and student achievement, I aim to inspire others to pursue a similar path, regardless of their academic level. With any form of learning comes the necessity for practical application. Anthropological research should be approached in the same way. Students who may feel intimidated about reaching out to their mentors should know that they are not alone. Approaching graduation can be daunting, but mentors should be there for support. This work reflects on my experiences with the traditional use study at El Malpais and the Collaborative Anthropology of Research and the Environment (CARE) lab. It is dedicated to those navigating a similar path of confusion. Building relationships and partnerships are critical within the field of anthropology, creating the foundation of this self-discovery through collaborative learning. Mentorship between students and professors or between students themselves was vital for my success in the current anthropological field, and it was due to the opportunities afforded to me that I was able to succeed and excel.
