Abstract

This article explores the evolving role of archaeological repositories in Flanders (Belgium), with a focus on the Ename Heritage Site in the province of East Flanders. It demonstrates how repositories can evolve beyond storage functions, becoming active agents of public engagement, education and inclusive heritage care. Through initiatives such as permanent exhibitions, educational programmes, and the participatory project Chalk the Past, repositories reconnect communities with their archaeological heritage. The article also outlines the methodology and collaborative framework of these initiatives, offering a scalable model for community-based heritage practices.
