The interest in the study of Ottoman documents held at the archives of the monasteries on Mount Athos has been increasing over the years, reflecting the recognition of their significance for the study of a multiplicity of Ottoman-era subjects linked to the Holy Mountain. Consequently, Athonite Ottoman documents are now being made accessible in print form and being published individually or as collective studies. Likewise, an increasing number of collections of individual Athonite archives are being catalogued and even digitalized. The thousands of Ottoman documents located in the 20 monasteries of the Holy Mountain dating from the late 14th century (1386) until early twentieth century undisputedly represents a huge and hitherto little-used source of information on Athonite wealth. The study will present documents from three of the Athonite monasteries, emphasizing the elements of document type, prosopography and type with facsimiles and transliterations to be included as appendices.
