For a closed 4-manifold X4 and closed 3-manifold M3 we investigate the smallest integer n (perhaps n=∞) such that M3 embeds in #nX4, the connected sum of n copies of X4. It is proven that any lens space (or homology lens space) embeds topologically locally flatly in #2(\mathbf CP2# \mathbf CP2), in #4 S2× S2 and in #8 CP2.
