Meiosis and pollen fertility were examined in hybrids representing combinations of 38 different populations of Cannabis. No irregularities were observed in meiosis, and pollen fertility was extremely high. It is concluded that there is little evidence for the development of sterility barriers in Cannabis, and accordingly there is no basis for recognizing taxonomic groupings on the criterion of breeding isolation.
