Opening Paragraph In August 1944, after more than twenty years of exile, His Eminence al-Sayyid Muhammad Idris, the Head of the Islamic Order of the Sanusiya, paid a visit to Cyrenaica as the guest of the British Administration of that country. The following account of the Sanusi of Cyrenaica may be of interest, since though the Sanusi became well known to us during the last war, and even better known during the present war, in which they have been our Allies, few of those who have met them in their country know their history.
