Genera Insectorum began publication in 1902. The creator and chief editor, P. Wystman of Belgium, began the monumental task of issuing a general collection including the nomenclature actually in use in entomology. It was intended to centralize all the published information of various learned societies to make research much easier for entomologists as well as others. The work was issued in fascicles (parts) up to the outbreak of World War II. On 31 December 1940, the publication issued a statement that it would cease for the duration of the war. Fascicle 207, issued prior to the war, is dated 1938, and following the war fascicle 208 appeared in 1950. Colorado State University Libraries has as its last fascicle number 219e dated 1970. It discontinued publication shortly thereafter.
