This essay is a review of Kaisa Kortekallio’s Mutant Narratives in Ecological Science Fiction: Thinking with Embodied Estrangement (2023) and Emily Horton’s 21st-Century British Gothic: The Monstrous, Spectral, and Uncanny in Contemporary Fiction (2024) with special attention to the intersections between monstrosity and mutability.
