Abstract

These guidelines present the practices used in community to address a number of questions related to climate mitigation on urban scale. There are 31 techniques of different maturity level presented in the document. They are dicussed in the context of the user specific questions. General description and techniques mapping are provided in the first part of the document while detailed technical chapters on each of 31 emissions quantification approaches are presented in the second part to guide practitioners in best-practice implementation. These guidelines focus primarily on carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) because they are the most significant drivers of anthropogenic climate change. Many of the methods discussed are applicable to other GHGs including nitrous oxide (N2O), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3). SF6, HFCs, PFCs and NF3, which are classified as fluorinated GHGs, commonly called F-gases or synthetic GHGs.
