Abstract

This is an accepted article with a DOI pre-assigned that is not yet published. This work seeks to show how the characteristics ofVelázquez's painting Las Meninas arereproduced in Santiago García and Javier Olivares' graphic novel The Ladies-in-Waiting through comiccodes, as well as the Baroque resources on which this graphic novel draws. Itconcludes that the creators of TheLadies-in-Waiting have written/painted a kind of essay on Las Meninas, based on the idea that theway we receive it today is determined by its pre- and post-history (the worksby which it was inspired and those it inspired). Accordingly, in The Ladies-in-Waiting, several elementsfrom both histories take their place in such a way that they support each otherboth thematically and visually. This comic book also presents, in comic form, the reflections of various critics on LasMeninas, taken from the book OtrasMeninas, edited by Fernando Marías.
