Abstract

This chapter discusses how geographical research can contribute methodologically to CAS. Spatial categories that are prominent in CAS, such as territorialisation or place, need to be related to other dynamics such as networks and scale. The often problematic impact of agrarian change or land grabs in specific places are connected to spatial networks at different scales, such as food regimes or global production networks. Developing an explicitly spatial research design can overcome pitfalls of methodological nationalism and methodological localism. Thinking through the spatial dimensions can help to create research that is socially relevant towards changing the status quo.
