This Paper was published in the Proceedings of the Aristotelian Society , 13 (1912-13): 126. It was Russell’s second Presidential Address to the Society, delivered on 4 November 1912. Before the Proceedings was published the article appeared in both English and French in Scientia , Bologna, 13 (May 1913): 317-38; the translation, which was made by Georges Bourgin, was printed in the supplement: 139-63. Russell read the translation and revised it. He included this paper in Mysticism and Logic (1918). The manuscript also survives.
