This article documents the origins and development of the public history project “Uncovering Diverse Histories of Yolo County,” a collaboration involving UC Davis students and scholars along with archivists, educators, and community members. Focusing on the history of early Black and Chinese immigrant communities in Yolo County, the project’s research findings reveal the ongoing revolutions that took place in California following statehood and the Civil War on the local level. The project also demonstrates how local history research can transform both the practices of the historical profession and the teaching of history itself.
