Abstract

Through a tentative exploration of the prolific yet often unacknowledged corpus of narratives depicting war at sea, this special issue of the Journal of War & Culture Studies seeks to uncover an aesthetics of naval war literature. This introduction to the special issue serves as a preliminary exploration of the parameters of two research fields that have recently gained traction: the blue humanities, and war and culture studies. It offers a brief overview of the fields’ main habits of thinking and examines how recalibrating scholarly attention on naval war literature offers a way to entangle both fields.
