Abstract

Summary Predatory publishing is an industry whose primary aim is profit. Predatory publisher's prey on the very mechanisms of academic career pathways, in which publications and citations are the ‘currency’. We received an average of 4.4 emails per day inviting us to publish in a potentially predatory journal; invitations to fake congresses were not counted. To prevent damage from this industry, education of researchers at every level of seniority is important and timely.
