Low-cost, quarter- and half-wave plates operating across the visible spectrum (410–750 nm) are fabricated using multiple layers of cellophane tape. By optimizing the number of birefringent layers, rotation angle, and optical path differences, Jones matrix calculations predict extremely high theoretical accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate over 95% linear polarization for the half-wave plate and 99% circular polarization for the quarter-wave plate. Experimental results using handmade assemblies verify these calculations, suggesting strong potential for educational applications without specialized tools.
