Houzhu bamboo ( Phyllostachys edulis 'Pachyloen') is a thick-walled cultivar of moso bamboo. To evaluate site-associated variation in shoot composition, ten site-based populations derived from a shared introduction provenance across six Chinese provinces were compared. Nutritional components, mineral elements, and forest soil properties were measured, and random-effects variance-components analysis, multiple-comparison tests, Pearson correlation, and principal component analysis were applied. Clear site-specific differences occurred in nutritional and mineral composition. Tannin, vitamin E, Cu, Mn, Zn, Ni, and Fe showed larger between-population than within-population variance components. Yiyang and Xinyang had relatively high values for vitamins, sugars, and several essential trace elements, whereas Yongan and Ganzhou had relatively low values for some traits. Soil Zn–shoot tannin and soil Cu/Fe–total sugar relationships reached nominal significance but did not remain significant after false-discovery-rate correction and were interpreted as exploratory trends. No consistent decline was detected across the measured quality indicators; instead, the cultivar showed site-specific compositional plasticity. The dry-weight mineral data support comparative interpretation among sites but do not permit regulatory food-safety or quantitative dietary-exposure conclusions.
