Abstract

The concentration camps were born in colonial setting, Cuba and South Africa then universalised during the First World War. This article explains the genesis of the phenomenon which put civilians out of different wars through deportation and captivity in camps with barbed wire and miradors, a long time before totalitarism used them as “means of goverment” through punition then death.
