Abstract

Investigated was the efficacy of bibliotherapy with 29 mildly to moderately depressed older adults. Three treatment conditions were compared: cognitive, attention control, and delayed cognitive bibliotherapy. Significant treatment effects were observed, with cognitive bibliotherapy superior to the attention control on all measures. Self-help programs may be a viable alternative or adjunct to meeting the mental health needs of the older adult.
