Abstract

A chance observation on the scavenging behaviour of the graceful awl snail Allopeas gracile on the land snail Pterocyclos rupestris is narrated in the present report. Despite the presence of adequate food, adult A. gracile consumed both the soft tissue and the shell of a dead specimen of P. rupestris. Although detritus and leafy vegetables are an abundant source of food, this observation confirms opportunistic necrophagous behaviour of A. gracile.
