The chemical composition, antioxidant and anticorrosion activities of essential oil (EO) and extract of Foeniculum vulgare Mill (fennel), was evaluated. This plant was collected from the region of Taourirt city ((Eastern region of Morocco), and the extraction of fennel essential oil was carried out by hydrodistillation. Experimental results indicate that the essential oil extraction yield is of 2.73 %, which is very acceptable economically and industrially. The analysis of our EO by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC/SM) has identified 17 components representing 99.52% of the total oil. it is characterized by the high content of Anethol (24%); Alpha-Pinene (22%) and trans ocimene (17.9%). Antioxidant activity was measured using more stable free radicals 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH•); and anticorrosion activity was evaluated using gravimetric and electrochemical methods (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS); weight loss measurements, and potentiodynamic polarization curves). The adsorption of inhibitor molecules on the steel surface has been discussed according to the chemical composition of the oil using activation parameters (Ea, DS, DH and DG) giving an explanation to the obtained results.
