This Note reports the results of a study of the water penetration of test walls. Walls constructed of TTW bricks varied greatly in resistance to water penetration when subjected to 5 hours of water spraying. Their performance depended on both the particular brick used and on the mortar, but their generally low resistance to leakage indicated that it is desirable to provide them with an additional barrier to rain penetration. Parging on TTW walls increased their resistance to leakage significantly. A silicone solution applied to the walls, two parged and one unparged, rendered them highly resistant to water penetration.
