We will conduct online based interviews with nurses working in public hospitals in Croatia. The interview will be led by an experienced interviewer and facilitated. Questions will be broad, allowing nurses to tell their stories and what they do in everyday practice to see if they are familiar with the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention of Surgical Site Infections. In the introduction, the interviewer introduce himself and the facilitator by name, title, and work position. The participants will receive a written explanation of what the study is about, who are researchers, what the purpose of this study is, how long the interview will take, how the interviews will be organized, how the data will be sorted pseudo anonymously, and how many questions the interview consists of. All interviews will be recorded using a digital audio recorder and transcribed by the interviewer. The participants will be asked for consent to participate in the study and to be recorded. The expected time of the interview is 45 minutes. Participants will be explained that the data will be sorted pseudo anonymously. After we finish all the interviews, we will sort the data and discuss it with all research team members. The number of participants depends on when we reach sampling saturation. Data saturation will be discussed among all members of the team. We will transcribe interviews and conduct de-identification of participants; all audio records will be deleted, and data will be processed anonymously. Interview transcripts will be kept for five years from the completion of the research. Senior research team members will review the transcribed interviews multiple times to gain an overall understanding. Afterward, the text will be divided into significant thematic areas and categorized based on similar content. These units will be categorized into smaller subthemes, including nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and barriers in everyday practice.
