Certified seeds enhance rice yields, improve farmers' livelihoods, and contribute to food security. However, its use still requires improvement, especially in rainfed paddy fields, which face challenges in the agricultural business system. This study investigated the characteristics and perceptions of farmers towards decision-making when purchasing certified rice seeds. The study was conducted in Purworejo District in 2024, with a sample size of 137 farmers representing various characteristics of farmers in rainfed paddy fields. Logistic regression analysis was employed to identify the primary factors influencing farmers' decisions to purchase certified rice seeds. The results indicated that farmer characteristics significantly influencing the decision to buy certified rice seeds included age and land size. The target for increasing rice production using certified rice seeds in rainfed paddy fields is young farmers (≤44 years) who possess land that meets the economic scale (≥0.52 ha). Farmers' perceptions of seed attributes significantly influence their decision to purchase certified rice seeds, particularly regarding growth potential and harvest age. The approach needed to encourage farmers to buy certified rice seeds from a technical perspective is to provide seeds with high growth potential (at least 80%) and a short shelf life (approximately 114 days).
