In the article, the author identifies the necessary conditions that must be fulfilled to enable the process of professional and personal development in the course of academic education. The main obstacles that hinder such support are: legal obstacles, i.e. teacher education standards, organisational and HR obstacles that affect the teacher training personnel and atheoreticality of education, i.e. lack of concepts to develop university curricula. The chance to overcome this impasse, which has continued for a number of years, is, on the one hand, the possibility to educate teachers in the course of uniform master’s studies granted by the Act 2.0 and, on the other hand, the autonomy of universities and their drive to go far beyond educational standards in line with the assumed theoretical concept of studies. As an example, the author presents the curriculum of the “Pre-School and Early School Education” course developed by the team of the Department of School Pedagogy and Academic Didactics at the Institute of Pedagogy of the Jagiellonian University, based on the humanistic concept of A. Combs and the reflective practice concept of D. Schön
