The process of transferring the information from working memory to long-term memory is a very crucial topic in cognitive science. Whereas the distinction between the working memory and the long-term memory has been debated, it is known that the information in the long-term memory is consolidated from working memory. This cooperative relation is studied by several researchers. In studies, it appears that the formation of long-term memory is affected by the available time of information in working memory. They show the improvement when there is more time to attend information, the consolidation gets resilient. As a result, the information is captured well from long-term memory. Attention and working memory is closely related with each other in terms of encoding, keeping, and manipulating the informaton. Unattended stimuli is not captured by working memory, so does not by long-term memory as well. As reviewed by Awh, Vogel, & Oh (2006), the nature of this interaction depends on the specific variety of attention and working memory being considered, and different functional processes are implicated in the maintenance of different kinds of information in working memory. Other than manipulating the time, prioritizing also has an influence on working memory consolidation. If a stimuli is rewarded, pre-cued or elaborated, that information benefits robust long-term memory (Hautekier et al., 2025). Cotton et al. (2021) demonstrated that having more time to attend a stimuli or presenting cue for the target before performing the recognition task significantly improve consolidation of the information into long-term memory. This benefit for the "before presentation" condition was observed even though there was no difference in accuracy during the initial stimulus identification task. This suggested that consolidation into WM, rather than simply attending to an item, plays a distinct and important role in creating long-term memory representations. Even though Cotton et al. (2021) with the experiement 3 showed an independent working memory effect via controlling the pre-existing semantic knowledge, it should be studied more to support a clear, robust effect of working memory consolidation. We can ensure that the strong long-term memory isn't caused by refreshing the information in mind but paying more attention. Additionally, extended replications can advantage for understanding various aspects of independent variables. For instance, we can achieve the knowledge of how much delay results maximum long-term memory performance or what kind of cueing works better. Furthermore, it is important to have extended replications of Cotton and Ricker (2021)'s research in order to establish the results. Acknowledging whether working memory improves the long-term memory performance or not may lead to developments of new strategies. Regarding to the established result, it contributes to a clearer theoretical distinction between various attention based working memory mechanisms and respective contributions to durable long term memory representations. The findings will clarify the necessary and sufficient conditions for robust long term memory encoding originating from working memory activity.
