A program was conducted for three years (2005-2006 to 2007-2008) in order to support production of organic vegetable seeds. This program was declined in four actions: (i) monitoring of seed crops, (ii) study of seed quality, (iii) mechanical weeding experiments, (iv) study of physiological characteristics of some weeds. Overall, it appears that the techniques used by seed growers can produce seeds of good quality. However, the control of some pests was particularly difficult (mildew of onion, bacterial diseases of bean, pea weevil). Production of organic vegetable seeds requires, for the farmer, attention and a high level of technicity, and often leads to high production costs. While the demand for organic seed grows rapidly, the number of seed growers interested and qualified for this production is insufficient to meet demand.
