The forestry-wood chain has important assets for climate change mitigation. Through consideration of the full life-cycle of wood products, these assets are reviewed and the quantification methods of their effects are detailed. The methods are essential for the recognition of these assets. National greenhouse gas emission balances of forest and forest product systems, carbon footprint of products and substitution effects are analysed. The effect of carbon sequestration into wood products could be better acknowledged through an evolution of the carbon footprint methodology.
