This systematic review seeks to understand how sexual partnership patterns have evolved in the context of universal access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), and PrEP roll-out. While sexual partnerships such as concurrent, casual partnerships, and age-disparate relationships have long been recognised as important factors influencing HIV transmission, little is known about how these dynamics may have shifted with the widespread availability of ART and PrEP. Specifically, this review seeks to explore changes in partnership types, sexual mixing patterns, and relationship duration before and after universal ART and PrEP rollout. By examining these temporal changes, the review aims to generate insights into whether and how ART access has influenced sexual behaviours and partnership choices, ultimately informing HIV prevention efforts in the treatment era. Main objectives: To systematically determine the burden and trends of risky sexual behaviours over time in the context of universal ART and roll-out of PrEP Specific objectives: To describe the trends, quantify and compare the prevalence of different sexual partnerships (e.g., serial monogamy, casual, non-exclusive, steady, sequential, monogamous, and multiple/concurrent partnerships, age disparate relationships) changed before and after the implementation of universal access to ART, and PrEP roll-out. To determine how has sexual mixing (e.g., assortative mixing, and age disparate relationships), and relationship duration have influenced sexual partnership patterns over time.
