This Review provides a comprehensive overview of climate change and energy in the European Union. It is based on the nine European Environment Agency (EEA) reports “Trends and Projections in Europe: Tracking Progress Towards Europe’s Climate and Energy Targets” from 2014 to 2022. The key topics covered in this review are greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, renewable energy (RES), and energy efficiency (EE). For each of these topics, an in-depth explanation is first provided, followed by appropriate visualizations from the EEA reports and data tables summarizing key information. In addition, the main statement is elaborated for each topic to highlight the core messages of these reports.
