The use of improved cookstoves is a benchmark for achieving sustainable development goals in terms of combating deforestation, empowering women and improving household well-being. Nevertheless, the adoption of improved cookstoves by rural households is low. The aim of this study is to identify the factors that need to be addressed to increase the adoption rate of improved cookstoves in rural Benin. Data was collected from 531 randomly selected women in southern Benin to identify factors influencing the adoption of improved cookstoves. The results of the descriptive analysis show that 58.76% of rural households use a traditional cookstove and 41.24% use an improved cookstove. Econometric estimates using the binary logit model show that women's level of education, women's field of activity, the household's ownership of a radio, television and business, the household's level of wealth, access to energy, and the type of main fuel used by the household are the main determinants that increase the adoption of improved cookstoves in Benin.
