The egg production (fecundity) of individual females of the southern pine beetle, Dendroctonus frontalis Zimmerman, and associated gallery parameters were investigated for beetles in bolts of loblolly pine, Pinus taeda L., in the laboratory. The mean fecundity was 159± 12.6 eggs/female. Significant ( P <0.05) but weak correlations were found for female body length with gallery length and number of niches per gallery, and for the number of niches per cm gallery with phloem moisture. Stronger relationships were found between body weight and body length and between the total number of niches per gallery and gallery length.
