Abstract

This scoping review examines the core competencies required for infection control nurses (ICNs) and infection control link nurses (ICLNs) across global healthcare settings. Analyzing studies published from 2008 to 2023, the research identifies nine key competency areas essential for effective infection prevention and control (IPC). Findings highlight primary competencies in IPC clinical practice and infection control knowledge, with role-specific differences between ICNs and ICLNs. The study emphasizes the need for clear, targeted competencies to improve IPC practices and patient safety, ultimately reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). These insights provide valuable guidance for healthcare administrators and policymakers in developing robust infection control strategies.
