Abstract

This scoping review aims to answer the following questions: Does EMG detect greater muscle activation after core muscle strength training in swimmers? Which are the main core muscles to be strengthened in swimmers? Additionally, what is the impact of core training on swimmer performance? However, the available literature on core training to increase swimmer performance is unclear. A scoping review was conducted to systematically map the research in this area and identify knowledge gaps. The aim of this review is to summarise the available evidence on muscle activation through EMG in swimmers and performance variables following core training. The study will be conducted using Scopus, Web of Science, and Publisher Medline (PubMed) databases. Google Scholar will be used to search for grey literature. The search strategy will consist of controlled descriptors related to EMG, muscle activation, and CORE, without any language restrictions. The publication period will be limited to the last 10 years. Four reviewers will work in pairs to assess the titles, abstracts, and full text of all publications identified by the search for potentially relevant publications. The data collected from the studies will be analysed by four independent reviewers. The synthesis of the studies will be quantitative and presented using tables and graphs to describe the available evidence on muscle activation through EMG in swimmers after core training and its performance variables.
