Abstract

The objective of the study was to investigate instructors' perceptions of the implementation of continuous assessment at Wollega University. A cross-sectional survey research design with a mixed-methods approach was employed. Questionnaires and FGD were used as data-gathering instruments. The samples of the study were 218 WU instructors selected randomly to fill out questionnaires, and 28 instructors and 33 students selected purposefully to participate in FGD from the three campuses. For the quantitative data, descriptive statistics were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows, version 21.0, and for the qualitative data, thematic analysis was employed. The results showed that there was no sound instructors' perception problem with CA implementation. Thus, it was recommended that there is a need to conduct detailed research on its practices because it does not seem that what the respondents reported about themselves might hold the truth because human beings do not evaluate themselves negatively.
