Abstract

Preliminary findings of observations of 40 high-rise office building evacuation drills carried out in Canada have helped to clarify crowd movement characteristics and other factors affecting fire emergency procedures. They raise questions concerning current design and regulatory practices and suggest new standards for means of egress.
