Thanks to recent molecular studies, it was revealed that one of the biggest European beetles, the red-stripped oil beetle Berberomeloe majalis (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera: Meloidae) comprised a complex of nine different species. To improve the knowledge of this threatened group, chorology of the newly described microendemic B. payoyo Sánchez-Vialas et al., 2020 is updated in pursuit of a better knowledge and future adequate conservation strategies. 252 field sampling events were performed between 2012-2021. 668 specimens were studied.
