Introduction : Foreign body (FB) inhalation represents a serious public health problem. To this end, we conducted this study to describe the epidemiological and clinical profile of tracheobronchial FB inhalation, to determine the therapeutic and evolutionary aspects. Materials & Methods : This is a retrospective study about the cases of inhalation of FB collected in the department of pediatric emergency, and pediatric resuscitation of the hospital Hédi Chaker of Sfax over a period of 7 years (January 1, 2014, until December 31, 2020). Results : 172 cases of FB inhalation were included. The mean age was 2 years 8 months with extremes ranging from 4 months to 11 years. The peak frequency was between 10 and 24 months. The sex ratio was 2. 12. The ave- rage delay of consultation was 17 hours with extremes ranging from one hour to 3 weeks. Penetration syndrome was present in 97. 7% of cases. The pulmonary examination was normal in 33. 7%. Chest radiography was perfor- med in all cases. Radiological abnormalities were emphysema (39. 4%), alveolar opacity , atelectasis (5. 3%), radiopaque FB (3. 5%), one case of pneumothorax and one case of pleurisy. Rigid bronchoscopy was performed in all cases. Organic FB were the most frequent (91. 5%) dominated by peanuts. The location in the bronchial tree was 57%. The outcome was favorable in 93. 6% of cases. The outcome was fatal in one case. Conclusion : Inhalation of FB is a frequent and serious accident in children, hence the major interest of pre- vention by educating parents and raising awareness of medical information and public authorities.
