Abstract

The Ecoviti Charentes Cognac project was conducted between 2013 and 2018. Its main objective was to reduce the use of pesticides while achieving the production targets in the Cognac area. In this context, several viticulture systems were implemented. The first system was based on the evaluation of some fungus resistant varieties selected by the BNIC, the second one, on multiple agronomic levers (density, rootstock and pruning), and the third one, on decision rules for a safe reduction of pesticides. The use of fungus resistant varieties resulted in a 80% reduction of the treatment frequency index (TFI) compared to the local reference value. These grapevine varieties are actually being registered in a French catalogue of grapevine. After their setting up in 2017, the agronomic levers allowed for a 46% reduction of the TFI. Some work is still in progress to prove the durability of these systems. Thanks to the combination of several levers (BSV, Weather forecasting, Dynamic disease models and Optidose®), the use of the CR3 resulted in a 38% reduction of the TFI compared to the local reference value, without any signficant yield losses due to the diseases.
