According to climate scientists, the Mediterranean area will be one of the most impacted by climate change, rising temperatures and intensification of summer droughts. The Mediterranean region has a diversity of ecosystems, which are unequally affected by these changes. The Mediterranean-types ecosystems are characterized by the presence of species adapted to drought and high temperatures such as holm oak and Aleppo pine, less vulnerable to summer drought, but whose growth can be affected by drier spring. The montane ecosystems are characterized by the presence of species more susceptible to drought and high temperatures such as siver fir, beech, or Scots pine. At low altitude, these species are highly vulnerable to droughts, but at higher altitudes, they may benefit from a growing season lengthened by rising temperatures. The supra-Mediterranean level it is characterized by species showing an intermediate behavior concerning drought: Atlas cedar, white oak. In this article, we will identify the already observed impacts of climate change on vegetation period, growth, health condition and carbon sequestration on these three types of ecosystems. This synthesis allow to assess the expected impacts of future change, but also to validate the processes based models that will quantify them.
